Time to shop and save during the Florida Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday!

Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday will help families by offsetting some of that increase so students can have the supplies they need for a successful start to the school year. Florida families are expected to save about $100 million according to research group Florida TaxWatch.

When does the tax free holiday run? 

The tax holiday period begins on January 1, 2024, and ends on January 14, 2024. During the back-to-school holiday, most school supplies that cost $50 or less will be exempt from sales taxes.

Items exempt from sales tax:

  • Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles selling for $30 or less
  • Most school supplies selling for $50 or less
  • Clothing, footwear and accessories selling for $100 or less
  • Computers and related accessories selling for $1,500 or less (when purchased for non-commercial and personal use)

Can I purchase  using a gift card? Qualifying items purchased during the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday using a gift card are exempt from tax, regardless of when the gift card was purchased. However, qualifying items purchased with a gift card after the tax exemption period are taxable, even if the gift card was purchased during the tax exemption period.
