Event description
Embark on an immersive guided walking and snorkel tour of Crandon Park’s Bear Cut Preserve, a vibrant island haven showcasing diverse coastal ecosystems.
Beginning at the Crandon Park Visitor’s & Biscayne Nature Center, participants will take a short hike through pristine dunes, learning about their crucial role in coastal protection and the unique flora and fauna that call them home. Continue into the serene hardwood hammock, where ancient trees provide a lush canopy, offering a glimpse into the island’s rich natural heritage.
At the conclusion of the hike, don your snorkel gear as we transition to the underwater world, exploring the shallow seagrass beds and ancient fossilized mangrove reef that supports a myriad of marine life. On the return trip to the nature center, expert guides will lead you on a walk along the shoreline, sharing insightful commentary on conservation efforts and the delicate balance of these interconnected terrestrial and marine ecosystems in the hopes of fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural beauty and ecological significance of Crandon Park.
This 3.5 hour program is suitable for ages 9 and up. Hiking portion is 1.25 miles total and takes place on gravel and sand paths.
