Your 2026 Guide to Children’s Gasparilla

gasparilla children's parade event info

If you’re raising kids in Tampa Bay, the Gasparilla Children’s Parade is basically a rite of passage. It’s the kid-safe, alcohol-free kickoff to Gasparilla season – think Mardi Gras, but with juice boxes and strollers. There are pirate floats, cannons, marching bands, skydivers and thousands of kids lining Bayshore screaming for beads. Here’s your guide to viewing, insider tips & making the most of this annual tradition…

Gasparilla Children’s Parade 101

  • The Children’s Parade started in 1947 as a smaller, family-focused event tied to the larger Gasparilla Pirate Festival, which celebrates the legend of pirate José Gaspar
  • The main parade features a rowdy pirate crew and partying adults, the children’s parade is  family-friendly and alcohol-free
  • Sat, Jan 24
  • Parade runs from 4-6:15pm, but activities begin around 12pm
  • Location: Bayshore Blvd between Bay to Bay & Edison
Pro tips
  • Get there early. Ideally by 10am
  • Dress for warmth. It can be cold near the water, bring layers & a blanket
  • Pack the essentials. Sunscreen, water, hand sanitzer, wipes, snacks and a stroller
  • Check the weather. Pack layers and rain gear
  • Bring a backpack or tote to carry home your beads
  • There’s a sensory relief tent at the southwest corner of Barcelona Street for kids who might get overwhelmed by crowds or noise.
Best viewing spots
  • The starting point near Bay to Bay Blvd. Less crowded early in the day with great views of floats right as they step off. If you need to leave early or want flexibility, stake out a spot on the land side of Bayshore—once the parade starts, you can’t cross the street until it’s over
  • Between Howard and Rome Avenue. Perfect if you want to catch both the Preschooler’s Stroll (2-3pm) and the main parade from the same spot. The LEGOLAND tent and Tampa Bay Sun activities are near Bayshore and Ardson (just south of Howard), so this area gives you access to pre-parade entertainment too.
  • Waterside balustrades. Best unobstructed views for the fireworks finale at 7pm, but these spots fill up fast. Get there early if the Piratechnic show is your priority.
  • First Mate Reserved Seats. If it’s in the budget, reserved seating is less crowded and you’ll have way better luck snagging beads.
Parade Highlights
  • Preschoolers Stroll (2-3pm). Kids under five parade down the street in decorated strollers, wagons and bikes
  • Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety Rodeo (12-2pm). Kids can ride through a mini traffic course and snag free helmets
  • Air Invasion (12-4pm).  Aerobatic planes and parachute teams performing in the sky
  • Parade Floats and Bead Tossing (4-6:15pm). Krewe members throw beads and small trinkets, kids love collecting pirate treasure along the route
  • Piratechnic Finale (7-7:30pm). Fireworks show over the bay that recreates the battle between YMKG pirates and the City of Tampa. Go waterside for the best views.
